What is the language that vietnam say???

I am Thai. After I graduated from the university, I and my family   had  traveled to China (Guangzhou) and Hongkong for 10 days  in July. Now I just work and some free time I learn Chinese language from The book. I realise that Chinese language is
important when you go to abroad, Especially mandarin chinese. I think if one day
I  travel to Vietnam.  So what is the language  that vietman say. So I ask. Can I use the  Chinese (mandarin) to communicate to vietman???

Please not talk about any sport because it may be serious! I just want some solution of my problem. Thank you.

The language used in VN is Vietnamese. The writing is like that of either English, French, Latin or Portugese but the sound is quite different.

Yes, you can use Mandarin in some very specific area of Viet Nam. In Ho Chi Minh City there is a region called China Town, mostly meaning District 5, 6 and 11. You can see a lot of Chinese Vietnamese here.

Good luck!

Actually, I think we should not associate people with language. I think you can used Chinese a little bit in Viet Nam but if you speak English, it is also OK in main cities.

When it comes to national issues, it's another story but I guess we don't say it here.

Some simple words:

xin chào : hello

Cám ơn : thank you (please note that the "c" in Vietnamese is pronounce as /k/ in English.

@Chenko: I don't think there are any good, bad or worst, best language. Languages, by their nature is neither good or bad. It's just a means of communication and it depends on how people use it.

But, we can say for sure that English is the language of international communication, it's pretty easy to learn and use.

That's good info, I guess.

But I mean chinese in general, not cantonese or mandarin in specific.

Are you sure that they don't understand each other, I mean the people who speak mandarin and those who speak cantonese ?

People who speak different languages may understand each other to some extent. For example, the Russians, the Macedonians and the Bulgarians speak different languages, namely Russian, Bulgarian and Macedonian, but they understand each other because those languages have the same Slavish origin.

Between, I don't use "dumb ass" to address people, and have no incentive to receive it from you, if you like it, you can keep those words for yourself.

every word about chinese make my blood boil, so can we stop this topic here???

your example is quite good indeed but that's only true in eastern euurope (which i don't know) but in fact a person who speak cantonese ain't understand madarind coz my buddy from hongkong does'nt understand a word the guy from bejjing said unless he speaks English ( the writting mainly the same, gotta admit), so I i ain't keep the" Dumb ass" myself which infact belongs to ya dude!

Well, u can use Chinese Cantonese to communicate with each other in Chợ Lớn - my hometown. We have the big Chinese community around here. Most of them 's speaking Cantonese and another dialect of Chinese, but I don't know.

For sure, Vietnamese's the official language in Vietnam. Beside that, u can use English or Chinese Mandarin-Cantonese to speak with each other immediately.

I'm Thai...

I use Taechew as a first language to speak with my aunt (Vietnamese) and her family and also many of her friends.

Together with that, I use Chinese Mandarin and English to communicate with some of her friends who dont speak Taechew at all.

In additional, when I go visit my aunt (Philippino) in Philippines. I use English as a first language to speak there. Lucky me, I can use Chinese Mandarin to speak with my aunt because she used to study in Taiwan since her High School. And, that was how my uncle (Thai) met my aunt at the first time.

Believe me, when you leave the country (Thailand). You will find out how less people who can understand Thai. You need to have your second language. That is very important if you need to communicate with people around the world. However, you can use Thai in Thai society (dont speak some other languages because they will think you are so idiot...lol).

Regards.

My friend, since you only know thai and mandarin, you could try learning some vietnamese to use in vietnam. Because if your english is not that effecient, then you still can catch up now learning some vietnamese. You know why i suggest this? because in the south, for example, southern vietnamese flare is somewhat like thai. Kiatisuk, who is now your U23 assistant coach speaks vietnamese very well. He only learned it while he was playing in vietnam. Its easier for you as a thai person to learn vietnamese. If your english is very good, then never mind. You can use english alright. Though only people in service to tourists know english. Its true that Cho* Lo*n' where my grandma used to live, people there also can speak cantonese. My grandma was cantonese so i learn alitle when i was young in vietnam, although my dad he is full viet. But even in Cho* Lo*n', chinese vietnamese still use vietnamese primarily. Vietnam abandoned Han Chi couple centuries ago and adopted Roman alphabet, so its should easy for you to learn vietnamese than chinese character. Just learn some to get by. The local people would teach you to speak some easily too. I personally asked thai people say something randomly and i learn. I had no problem pronoucing thai even with sound like Kr...or a long R..i still could do it hahahabiggrin Good luck.

You should speak the right language to the right person at the right time. Like, not speaking Mandarin to Kim_T_Bui, but talk Cantonese to the Chinese Vietnamese in District 5. :D

Anyway, it is preferred to speak Vietnamese in Vietnam, just like any other country. English is another good means of language if you can not learn any Vietnamese.

Its "Anh Ye^u Em" from a guy to a girl and its "Em Ye^u Anh " from a girl to a girl. That is strictly for use only in a serious relationship. Unlike Westerners, vietnamese they dont express love by saying much. If they like you or love you, you can tell by their attitude toward you. Like a child loves his or her parents but she or he does not say it. Maybe in movie when it has to be cheesy. That child although does not say it in a normal way, but in special occasions. Or they would use another sentence like "To^i thu*o*ng me. to^i lam' " the world Thu*o*ng is used more often to anyone..from a younger sister to a older brother or even from a friend to a friend.
So in vietnam you dont have to say " I love you" just be nice and smile and they know you love them. Even better..take their whole family to eat everyday until you go broke then you can even say I hate you they still dont believe that you do..kakaka

People who can understand only either Mandarin or Cantonese can communicate with each other by writing because they use the same written characters with a few exceptions. The pronunciation of the two are totally different. Mandarin has four tones and Cantonese has more than six. The two are both tonal languages (different tones has different meanings for the same sound) and they also have different vowels and consonants too.

That's the different between Cantonese and Mandarin

And Vietnamese also have six tones with different vowels and consonants. Another point is that Cantonese people call themselves Yue (Việt) and their language Yue language (Việt language). :D

Another fascinating factor Karen Millen sale about these beads is the reality that they don't necessarily need to be transparent - there are numerous opaque and semi-transparent styles offered as well, and you'd be amazed how a great deal the texture with Karen Millen UK the cyrstal glass tends to alter using the appropriate paint utilized to it - not merely does it turn out to be non-transparent, however it also feels numerous when touched as well, creating it extremely simple to imitate any design you may Karen Millen shops perhaps have to incorporate within your looks.Don't restrict your self to necklaces both - cyrstal glass beads could be incorporated into something - just like earrings and also straight attaching them for your clothes.
